CAL Apprenticeship EXPO 2009
The fourth annual CAL Apprenticeship Expo was held at the Sheet Metal Workers JATC on Friday, October 23, 2009. Approximately 200 high school juniors, seniors and Job Corp applicants attended the event.
The event is a coordinated effort to present “Apprenticeship” as a viable and profitable career option. Each student had the opportunity to attend presentations from 4 different trades or crafts. From electrical to welding, sheet metal to concrete, heavy machinery to auto-repair, and many more. After the presentations, the students had the chance to ask questions related to the field and to participate in a “hands on” component related to the trade or craft.
The Santa Clara County Electrical JATC was represented by Andrew Rogers, Apprentice Coordinator and two current apprentices, Paul Avery and Lucia Valencia. The input from two of our local apprentices was invaluable in assisting the students, not only with the “hands on” component, but also with sharing their experience with the JATC.
